Listen To The Sound of Tennis - Strategy

What? "The listening to the sound as a strategy" you may be thinking, "what on earth?". Well, here's a memory laid on your way.

I was playing a single point game with one our coaches and I was able to send a deep cross-court ball which she wasn't expecting. So, she started to run towards it to the back not seeing the court...

And as soon as I sent the ball, I thought it a nice opportunity to get close to the net and started to run, too, with a considerable amount of excitement for I was closing the point :)).

But when I got closer to the net, she anticipated and managed to gave me a deep lob, which landed near but inside of the baseline, way back of me. Instead of hunting I was hunted gracefully albeit mercilessly.

I shouted, "how did you know that? you can't possibly see me advancing". And instantly she replied, "your advancing feet sound are all over the place..." Pffff.

So, of course watching the opponent with one eye is still an advantage, such as putting him/her in the wrong foot position or picking the right side for a smash. But sometimes it's also good to listen.

Then after that point, I also managed to fool her under a similar position and producing fake feet  sound which made her send another deep lob but this time I was well positioned for a smash (couldn't execute it successfully tough).
